Poor Shins. The pressure to perform was too much for them and they came out sounding weak and defeated. Dammit Zach Braff, why'd you have to go and corrupt the boys? Where Chutes Too Narrow and Oh, Inverted World were happy and innocent, Wincing the Night Away presents a mellow, depressing side of the Shins. Their first single, "Phantom Limb" is probably the most upbeat song on the whole album. The rest of the record stumbles through a trance-like haze, floating from one song to the next in a slow, tepid delirium. I liked the Shins because they were so cheery and carefree. They need to get back to their roots and have some fun with their music.

Oh I couldn't agree more. The new album was such a let down. Shins music made me so happy. I haven't really been able to listen to the new album all that much. I did love that movie too though.
