Barsuk Records 15th Anniversary Dates Announced

This year marks the fifteenth anniversary of the founding of Seattle, WA independent record label Barsuk Records. To continue its autumn-long celebration (which kicks off with an incredible, previously-announced day of Barsuk artists at Bumbershoot in early September), the label is throwing a four-day party to be held at some of the best music venues throughout the city. Thursday through Sunday, November 7-10, the label has assembled four very special lineups at Showbox at the Market, Neptune Theatre, Neumos/Barboza, and The Tractor Tavern, cramming as many Barsuk artists – past and present – as they can fit into each night.

Only *50* early-bird wristbands will go on sale Tuesday June 18 at 12:00 pm PST via, before the individual shows go on sale.

Wristbands will give holders guaranteed access to all four nights of indie bliss, and come with a complete set of signed & numbered anniversary show screenprints by renowned poster designer Jason Munn, plus a free round-trip car ride to each venue courtesy of Uber. Also, 100% of Barsuk's net proceeds from wristband sales and from all other anniversary ticket sales will be donated to Gilda's Club Seattle.

This once-in-a-lifetime long weekend of music is the culmination of an anniversary celebration that begins at this year's Bumbershoot. On Sunday, September 1, the long-standing Seattle arts festival will feature "15 Years of Barsuk Records," a conversation with label co-founder Josh Rosenfeld and a collection of some of the more verbose members of the Barsuk family as part of Bumbershoot's Words & Ideas programming, followed by an all-day music lineup featuring performances by Barsuk artists Death Cab for Cutie (performing their 2003 masterpiece Transatlanticism in its entirety), Ra Ra Riot, Mates of State, David Bazan, and Ramona Falls.

Tickets for Bumbershoot are on sale now. Tickets for individual Barsuk anniversary shows in November will go on sale later in June. "We're honored that so many members of Barsuk's little family have signed on for these shows," noted Rosenfeld, "and can't wait to announce the line-up at the end of the month – all we can say now is that these four shows are going to be incredible nights of music, with amazing headliners and some surprises..."

Barsuk's 15th anniversary celebration will benefit Gilda's Club Seattle, a cancer support organization that provides free services for men, women, and children touched by cancer in our community, along with their families, friends and colleagues. Gilda's Club Seattle ensures that no one has to face cancer alone.

"Barsuk and our bands wanted to use this event to help raise funds for a local non-profit organization, and the staggering number of our friends and family who've been hit with cancer or cancer-related ordeals in the last couple years made it an easy call to work with Gilda's Club," said co-founder Christopher Possanza. "Locally-focused organizations that provide information and support to patients and families are constantly struggling to stay viable; that direct support of people who are actually dealing with disease really resonated with us."

Formed in the late '90s by friends and bandmates Rosenfeld and Possanza as a way to put out music by their own band (This Busy Monster) and by their friends (Death Cab for Cutie, John Vanderslice, et al), Barsuk Records has grown and flourished over the years to release records from artists such as Phantogram, Ra Ra Riot, Menomena, Nada Surf, The Long Winters, David Bazan, Yellow Ostrich, Maps & Atlases, Rocky Votolato, The Dismemberment Plan, Jesse Sykes, Say Hi, Rilo Kiley, They Might Be Giants and more. Fifteen years on, Barsuk is still operated full-time by its owners and a small group of dedicated, music-loving staffers, many of whom have been with the label for up to a decade. Focused not on any specific genre, but simply on supporting unique creativity, Barsuk has developed an outstanding reputation for quality and integrity, and the label promises to be a bastion of quality music for years to come.
