Barsuk Records' 15th Anniversary Lineup Announced

2013 is a landmark year for the Barsuk Records family. This year marks the fifteenth anniversary of the founding of the Seattle, WA independent record label, and the tenth anniversaries of the label's Death Cab for Cutie masterpiece Transatlanticism, indie rock cornerstone When I Pretend to Fall by The Long Winters, Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter's acclaimed debut Reckless Burning, and Nada Surf's classic Let Go.

After beginning its anniversary celebration at this year's Bumbershoot Festival with a day of programming on Sunday, September 1 (culminating with Death Cab's headline performance of Transatlanticism at KeyArena), Barsuk is putting on four once-in-a-lifetime concerts two months later, Thursday through Sunday, November 7-10 at Showbox at the Market, Neptune Theatre, Neumos, and The Tractor Tavern, cramming as many artists from Barsuk's roster – past and present – as they can fit into each night and charging $15 per ticket in honor of the anniversary landmark.
Tickets for all four November Barsuk anniversary shows will be available today, August 7. Fans planning on going to all shows but wanting to avoid ticketing fees can head to the label's website and purchase one of a very limited quantity of four-day passes for $60 — purchase information is available at www.barsuk.com/xv.

The scheduled performances for the anniversary shows are:

Thursday 11/7 - Showbox at the Market:
Nada Surf (playing Let Go), Special Guest, Mates of State, and more

Friday 11/8 – Neptune Theater:
The Long Winters (playing When I Pretend To Fall), David Bazan, Chris Walla, Minor Alps, and more

Saturday 11/9 - Neumos:
Menomena, Maps and Atlases, Yellow Ostrich, Cymbals Eat Guitars, and a very special end of the night guest

Sunday 11/10 - Tractor Tavern:
Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter (special anniversary performance with original lineup playing Reckless Burning), Special Guest, Rocky Votolato, Laura Gibson (solo), and more
As previously announced, on Sunday, September 1 the long-standing Seattle arts festival Bumbershoot will feature "15 Years of Barsuk Records," a conversation hosted by noted musician/writer/actor Sean Nelson with longtime Barsuk artists John Roderick and David Bazan, label co-founder Josh Rosenfeld, and other members of the Barsuk family as part of Bumbershoot's Words & Ideas programming. An all-day music lineup will follow, featuring Death Cab for Cutie's performance of Transatlanticism and sets by Barsuk artists Ra Ra Riot, Mates of State, David Bazan, and Ramona Falls.

Tickets for Bumbershoot are on sale now at http://bumbershoot.strangertickets.com. Tickets for individual November shows will go on sale at noon Pacific time today, Wednesday, August 7. "We're honored that so many members of the Barsuk family have signed on for this unforgettable series of shows and to help raise money for a great local non-profit," noted Rosenfeld. "The Bumbershoot lineup is going to be incredible, and these four November shows are on a scale unlike anything we've ever done before – amazing music, and some surprises...!"

Barsuk's 15th anniversary celebration will benefit Gilda's Club Seattle, a cancer support organization that provides free services for men, women, and children touched by cancer in our community, along with their families, friends and colleagues. Gilda's Club Seattle ensures that no one has to face cancer alone.

"Barsuk and our bands wanted to use this event to help raise funds for a local non-profit organization, and the staggering number of our friends and family who've been hit with cancer or cancer-related ordeals in the last couple years made it an easy call to work with Gilda's Club," said co-founder Christopher Possanza. "Locally-focused organizations that provide information and support to patients and families are constantly struggling to stay viable; Gilda's Club's direct support for people who are actually dealing with disease really resonated with us."

Formed in the late '90s by friends and bandmates Rosenfeld and Possanza as a way to put out music by their own band (This Busy Monster) and by their friends (Death Cab for Cutie, John Vanderslice, et al), Barsuk Records has grown and flourished over the years, releasing records from artists such as Phantogram, Ra Ra Riot, Menomena, Nada Surf, The Long Winters, David Bazan, Yellow Ostrich, Maps & Atlases, Rocky Votolato, The Dismemberment Plan, Jesse Sykes, Say Hi, Rilo Kiley, They Might Be Giants and more. Fifteen years on, Barsuk is still operated full-time by its owners and a small group of dedicated, music-loving staffers, many of whom have been with the label for up to a decade. Focused not on any specific genre, but simply on supporting unique creativity, Barsuk has developed an outstanding reputation for quality and integrity, and the label promises to be a bastion of quality music for years to come.
